Bibliobus that brings all
2017
The Győző Csorba Library of Pécs, which also performs county duties, has readers in 283 settlements. Most of which have a library, but in the smallest, mostly dead-end villages, the bibliobus service offers a good alternative. The library's two mobile vehicles await readers with thousands of documents, a printing facility, and internet access, and they can also request books from the millions of records of Pécs Konwledge Center.
The aim of the library bus projects (2010, 2014) is to provide library services in disadvantaged areas. The buses reach every village every two weeks and stay for an hour and a half. They also visit settlements where even food stores and pubs are closed for good. The number of visitors to the mobile library varies from settlement to settlement. There are places where the one and a half-hour service time is barely enough for everyone to take out the books of their choice; in other places, there may be only two regular guests, but they read instead of several people. A lot depends on the enthusiasm of the mayor and the contact person: the latter not only helps in ensuring electricity and toilets but also warns forgetful readers of the library's arrival or even takes out books for those who don't have time to visit the truck.
The little company consisting of a librarian and a driver carries more than just books: they help in solving IT problems, filling out job applications, and more than once, the bus also serves as a playhouse for local children. The readers are known by name, and the conversations revolve around their everyday problems and joys, as well as the wellbeing of family members. Professional preparation is not enough for this job; it also requires a good amount of openness to people.
